Lincoln-Way Students Win Awards In Scholastic Art Competition

Lincoln-Way students were recognized with 34 awards for their outstanding artwork.

NEW LENOX, IL — Students in Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 competed in the 2020 Scholastic Art Competition recently. The district said the Scholastic Art Show is the most recognized and prestigious high school art exhibition in the nation.

Noteworthy past winners of the competition include Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford and Joyce Carol Oates.

The district said more than 40 area schools submitted 2,188 works of art with only 638 pieces awarded and accepted into the show.

Lincoln-Way students were recognized with 34 awards for their outstanding artwork. 13 students were given Gold Key Awards, 13 students earned Silver Awards, and eight earned Honorable Mention Awards. Gold Key Award winners’ work will advance to New York to compete at the national level, the district said.

“The Scholastic Art Competition is a highly competitive show and it is a very high honor
for all of the students that received awards this year,” Phil Labriola, District Art
Department Chairperson, said in a release. “The art faculty is extremely proud of how hard our students work and we love to see their talents recognized in the Scholastic Art Competition each
year.”

Students who earned awards are:

Lincoln-Way Central: Olivia Freiberg, Melanie Piunti (two awards), Lukas Katilius (four awards), Nikolena Kostovski, Mary Morrison, Ellie Prudhoe and Haley Ramos.

Lincoln-Way East: Angela Farkic (two awards), Paige Cook, Jessica Selph (two awards) and Carra Molinare.

Lincoln-Way West: Ricky Saxour, Morgan Burke, Kameron Lambert, Jenna Davis (seven awards), Ailee McGhee, Cheyanne Montano, Courtney Kurtz, Jordan Patrick, Olivia Rusch and Jaden VanderBent (two awards).

All awarded works will be displayed in the regional show, the district said. The reception will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at Downers Grove North High School, 4436 Main St., Downers Grove. The show will be open for viewing from Monday, Feb. 3 – Friday, Feb. 7.
