Local Lincoln-Way Scouts Earn Eagle Scout Rank

The scouts chose service projects in Lockport and Mokena.

NEW LENOX, IL — Three seniors from Lincoln-Way 210 and Boy Scout Troop 755 have risen through the scouting ranks together and have recently received the honor of Eagle Scout. The district said Alex Austin and Louden Moran from Lincoln-Way West and Brent Thomson from Lincoln-Way Central came up through Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts together and have supported each other in achieving their goal of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts.

According to the district, both Moran and Thomson chose to create a service project for SOS Children’s Village, a foster care program located in Lockport. Moran built 17 flower boxes, while Thomson built and installed two picnic tables and two benches near the playground.

“I chose this organization because I loved how they have the foster parents living on-site in a community with the foster kids all at one location. I also liked that SOS has a great record of success for the kids who are living at the facility,” Thomson said in a release.

“I wanted to give back to the community near me and help foster children become comfortable with a new environment. By building flower boxes it would give the community a livelier and friendlier appearance, as well as potentially providing a new hobby for the children,” Moran said in a release.

For his service project, Austin made six benches for Journey in Mokena, a counseling center helping women with pregnancy, unhealthy habits, job skills, and emotional and relationship care.

“I really wanted to help them by making the people in need comfortable. I made some benches that they can use to give them a peaceful setting outside, where they can relax and feel comfortable,” said Austin.

“Alex, Brent, and Louden are remarkable young men,” Daniel Moran, Troop 755 Assistant Scoutmaster and fellow Eagle Scout, said in a release. “They genuinely demonstrate the values of the Scouts, while also enjoying the outdoors and spending time with their friends.”
