Lucky Customers Get More Than $9,000 Out of Faulty New Lenox ATM

An ATM at the New Lenox Kmart coughed up more than $9,000 to undeserving customers before one honest individual returned his excessive payout.

The police reportedly sent an officer over to the Kmart Tuesday morning to look into the matter. The officer met with a man from the cash machine company and was told an “unknown person returned $1,540 to Kmart after the ATM machine dispensed the wrong amount of cash,” police said.

The ATM man “conducted an audit and discovered the machine had a faulty gear and had dispensed the wrong amount of currency on three other occasions for $7,600,” police said.
