Man Breaks Deputy's Hand, Screams Slurs In L-Way Lot: Sheriff
Police used a stun gun on Carter after he took a hammer from his pocket, raised it over his head and moved toward the deputy, police said.

NEW LENOX, IL — A New Lenox man was arrested Thursday after screaming slurs in the Lincoln-Way Central parking lot and breaking a Will County Sheriff deputy's hand while resisting arrest, the Will County Sheriff's office said. Kevin Carter Jr., 40, of the 200 block of Locust Lane, has been charged with felony disorderly conduct, criminal trespass to property, aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated assault and obstructing/resisting arrest.
At 10:40 a.m. Thursday, a maintenance employee at Lincoln-Way Central High School saw Carter on a motorized bike riding through the parking lot and screaming threatening racial slurs, police said. Carter then left the property. School officials reviewed surveillance, and officials and deputies confirmed Carter's identity, police said.
Police said they knew Carter from previous contacts. Officials at the school are also familiar with Carter, and in September, he was notified he was not allowed on school property, police said.

According to police, Carter entered the business, and a deputy followed behind him and spoke to him just inside the front door.
Police said Carter took "an aggressive stance" and refused orders to calm down and come outside the business. Carter then took a claw hammer from his pants pocket and raised it over his head as he moved toward the deputy, police said. The deputy used a stun gun on Carter, who then ran to the back of the store, where he slipped and fell to the ground, according to police.
Carter continued to resist the officer, and the officer eventually took control of Carter, police said. Carter was taken to Silver Cross Hospital for a medical check. He was released and taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
The deputy was also treated at the hospital for a broken hand sustained while bringing Carter under control, police said.
Carter had a court date Friday, and has not yet been released from the adult detention facility. Carter has faced charges in Will County before, including domestic battery, damage to property, aggravated assault and criminal defacement.
