Man Dies Days After Fire Destroys New Lenox Home

The fire on Sanford Avenue also killed a family dog.

NEW LENOX, IL - Larry Crabb Sr., the New Lenox resident who was pulled from his family's fully engulfed house on Tuesday morning, has died, according to a story published by the Joliet Herald-News. The paper reported that Crabb died in Cook County on Friday at Loyola Medical Center. He was 69. The fire broke out around 9:30 a.m. and the home on Sanford Avenue was destroyed. One of the family's dogs also died during the fire.

Investigators determined that the fire was caused by an electrical problem in the home, and they suspect that the fire's origin was a second-hand cell phone charger. Crabb lived at the home along with his wife, who was not home at the time the fire began. The couple's 36-year-old son who pulled his father out of the burning house, also lived at the residence.
