McDermed and Serbin Victorious in 37th House District Primaries
With Renee Kosel's endorsement, McDermed cruised to a big win.
Margo McDermed will face Nichole Serbin in November in a race to succeed Renee Kosel as representative for the 37th House District.
In the Republican primary, Arthur Lukowski, of Mokena, and Gayla Smith, of Frankfort, finished a distant second and third to McDermed, according to unofficial results posted Tuesday night. On the Democratic side, Serbin beat August (O'Neill) Deuser of Lockport.
With all 63 precincts counted, the unofficial vote totals are:
Republican Primary
- Margo McDermed: 5,519
- Arthur Lukowski: 2,417
- Gayla Smith: 2,049
- Nichole Serbin: 1,066
- August (O'Neill) Deuser: 702
McDermed, of Mokena, was elected to the Will County Board in 2012. A lawyer for Amoco and BP, she oversaw compliance with antitrust law and international law. She received her juris doctorate from DePaul University College of Law.

Serbin, of Mokena, owns a mobile disc jockey business and was once a standup comedian.
The 37th District, which tends to vote Republican, includes New Lenox, Mokena, Frankfort, Lockport, Orland Park and parts of Tinley Park. Kosel, 70, has served in the House since 1997.
