In Memoriam: Glenn Sergent

Longtime Caterpillar employee, Marathon Basketball coach.

Glenn Sergent, 86, died Wednesday, June 17, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with his loving family by his side.

Survived by his children Lori Karafiat, Lisa (Mark) Boyer and Jeff (Danielle) Sergent; devoted grandfather of Amanda (Sam) Karafiat-Ibrahim and Kevin Karafiat; and Kyle Coleman-Boyer.

Preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years Marilyn and his parents Amel and Irene (nee Blood) Sergent.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Glenn’s name to the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home would be greatly appreciated.

Long career working for Joliet Caterpillar and retired from Joyce Beverages (7-Up) in 1979. Then formed Marathon Basketball where he coached for 24 years, representing the United States in International Competition and Division I Collegiate Exhibition for 24 years, retiring in 2003.

Glenn was a longtime member and supported of the Ridgewood Baptist Church and Academy. As well as, the Christian Youth Center in Joliet. He was also a lifelong, avid golfer at Woodruff Golf Course.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Joliet, 3201 Jefferson St. Additional calling hours will be held on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. with a Chapel Service to be held at the Funeral Home beginning at 10 a.m. Interment at Elmhurst Cemetery.
