New Census Data Shows Breakdown of Local Age, Housing Occupancy
Every week, we'll break down different numbers that paint a picture of New Lenox.

On Thursday, the U.S. Census Bureau released new, detailed demographic information from the 2010 Census for six states, including Illinois. It's the most detailed counts available thus far and shows information on age, sex, households, families, race and more. Before, data was released about theses basic categories, but today's release cross-tabulates the information and can break it down to the block within a town.
Every week, we'll take a miscellaneous piece of information from the Census to help paint a picture of the people who make up New Lenox. Today, we look at a couple random facts related to the age of the population in town:

- Oldest residents: There are two people in New Lenox who are older than 100 (exact age unspecified).
- Most popular age: We've got 484 residents who are 15, followed closely by 45-year-olds (481).
- Age distribution: The Census breaks age into five-year spans, and the grouping with the highest percentage of residents is 45- to 49-year-olds, making up 9.3 percent of New Lenox. Nine percent of residents are 40-44.
