New Lenox Area Coronavirus Cases Increased By 19 Over Past Week

NEW LENOX, IL — The number of New Lenox's coronavirus cases increased by 29 over the past week, according to data from the Will County Health Department. New Lenox (ZIP code 60451) has a total of 282 cases on Aug. 10, compared to 263 cases on Aug. 3, which represents a 7.2 percent increase in the past week.
Health authorities do not provide the number of deaths, hospitalizations or recoveries by municipality.y

Since testing began, IDPH is also reporting a total of 4,474 tests have been performed for ZIP code 60451.
In nearby towns in the Lincoln-Way area, Mokena (ZIP code 60448) has fewer cases with 233 cases and Frankfort (ZIP code 60423) has more, with 311 cases reported as of Aug. 10. Manhattan (ZIP code 60442) has 81 cases, according to data from the county health department.

As of Tuesday, Illinois' coronavirus case count was 196,948 and the coronavirus has claimed the lives of 7,657 Illinois residents. In Will County, there are 9,375 cases of the coronavirus and 346 related deaths.
The state recently developed new resurgence criteria to identify early but significant increases of coronavirus transmission. With the new criteria, the state also developed new emergency management regions, and Will County is now part of region 7.
"All of us wanted to be removed from the Chicago region, and we got removed, and we have one of the highest rates of positivity throughout all of Illinois with Will and Kankakee," Mayor Tim Baldermann said during the Aug. 10 village board meeting.
According to IDPH, as of data available on Aug. 4, region 7 has had six days of test positivity increases and five days of hospital admission increases. The most recent data shows the positivity rate at 6.7 percent. Hospital availability for region 7, which includes Will and Kankakee counties, has 36 percent of medical-surgical beds available and 35 percent of ICU beds available.
