New Lenox House Blaze Leaves Man Badly Burned

The cause of the fire remains undetermined.

NEW LENOX, IL - A fire broke out around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in New Lenox that left a home substantially damaged and two people injured. The pair were treated at the scene for burns and smoke inhalation and later taken to an area hospital, the New Lenox Fire District announced. The fire occurred in the 2200 block of Sanford Avenue. When engines arrived, New Lenox firefighters saw heavy flames coming from the tri-level.

The fire's cause was not immediately known. Several area fire districts assisted with the fire and with additional emergency calls including: Frankfort, Mokena, East Joliet, Manhattan, Homer, Northwest Homer, Orland, Lockport, and Elwood.

New Lenox Fire officials told Patch that it appears the blaze may have started in the living room area since that was the area with the most damage. At least one of the two people who were injured lived at the residence. However, as of 3 p.m., firefighters were not sure how severe the victims' injuries or whether they were being airlifted to a burn or trauma center.
