New Lenox Close To Hiring 6 New Police Officers

Two of the hires work as police officers in other Illinois communities, according to New Lenox's deputy chief.

NEW LENOX, IL - Due to retirements, growth and turnover, the New Lenox Police Department has been understaffed over the past several months, but those days are coming to an end. New Lenox Deputy Chief of Police Louis Alessandrini said that his department is finalizing the hiring process to bring six new police officers onto his Will County village's force. Four of the officers will be new hires to the police profession while two of the hires will be experienced police officers coming to New Lenox from other police departments within Illinois, he said. The new additions will bring New Lenox up to 37 full-time sworn officers, Alessandrini said.

New Lenox had advertised that it was seeking to hire one or more officers with at least two years of police experience with Illinois law enforcement certification. Alessandrini said that New Lenox received roughly 80 applications for that particular opening. The deputy chief told Patch that if all goes as planned, he's hoping to have some of the hires finalized within the next couple weeks.
