New Lenox Fire Dept. Extinguishes Multiple Fires

A car fire and a house fire were both reported on Monday, March 4, the department said.

NEW LENOX, IL — New Lenox Fire Protection District responded to two different fires on March 4. According to the department, the first call came in around 10 a.m. for a report of a car on fire in the Target parking lot.

The crew was able to put out the fire quickly, and no one was injured, the department said.

The second call came in at 1:15 p.m. for a report of a possible structure fire in the 400 block of Circlegate Road, the department said. The homeowner had arrived home to find her house filled with smoke and called 911. Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the basement of the home.

The department said crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly, and the fire damage was contained to the basement. However, the house did sustain heavy smoke damage. The homeowner was also checked out on the scene for smoke inhalation, but was not taken to the hospital.

No injuries were reported, and the department said East Joliet, Frankfort and Manhattan provided mutual aid at the scene.

The cause of both fires remain under investigation at this time.
