New Lenox House Fire Damaged Kitchen

The fire occurred over the weekend.

NEW LENOX, IL - Nobody was injured during Saturday night's house fire on Second Street and the cause remains under investigation, New Lenox's Fire Protection District announced Tuesday. Firefighters responded to the structure fire in the 100 block of East Second Street around 8 p.m. Saturday. They saw smoke coming from the eaves. Once inside firefighters found the kitchen was on fire.

"The crews were able to put the fire out within 10 to 15 minutes. The firefighters also located and extinguished several small hidden fires on the second floor," a press release states.

According to New Lenox fire officials, the homeowner was out of town when the fire occurred.

Frankfort Fire Protection District provided mutual aide at the scene. The NLFPD, New Lenox Police Department, MABAS 19 investigators, and the State Fire Marshal were also on the scene investigating the fire until 2 a.m. Sunday.

According to the State Fire Marshal, the cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation., New Lenox fire officials said.
