New Lenox Man Charged in Gas Station Robbery: Police

New Lenox man accused of robbing BP Station in Alsip.

ALSIP, IL -- A police K9 led officers to a man who had just robbed an Alsip gas station on Saturday night, police said.

Alsip police officers were called at 12:45 a.m. March 4 in response to a robbery that had just happened at the BP gas station located at 12230 S. Cicero Ave.

An employee told police that a man, later identified as Shane Hasibar, walked into the station and implied that he had a knife. The alleged robber grabbed cash out of the register door and fled on foot from the gas station south on Cicero Avenue.

When police arrived on scene, K9 Eddie, a ten-year veteran of the Alsip Police Department picked up a scent. The plucky K-9 tracked the scent to the rear of the D-Lux Budget Motel at 12340 S. Cicero Ave., where police said they found Hasibar.

Security video from the motel and determined that Hasibar was a staying in a room there. Police went to Hasibar’s room where he was taken into custody without incident. Officers also found the weapon and money from the robbery, according to a police news release.

Hasibar, 28, of New Lenox, was charged with armed robbery. He appeared Sunday at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building at 26th and California, where bond was set at $275,000.

His next court date is March 8 in Bridgeview.
