New Lenox Named Among 10 Safest Places in Illinois

Residents of New Lenox live in a village boasting a crime rate so low that it lands them among the safest hometowns in the state.

Real estate blog Movoto ranks New Lenox as the ninth-safest place in Illinois. Homer Glen leads the list, with other finalists including Libertville, Geneva, Bartlett and others.

Movoto researchers made a list of the most populated places in the state, then, delved into Uniform Crime Report from the FBI (2012), looking at criteria such as:

  • Murder
  • Rape
  • Robbery
  • Assault
  • Burglary
  • Theft
  • Vehicle theft

Those were then further divided into:

  • Murders
  • Violent crimes
  • Property crimes
  • Total crimes

Those stats rounded up 115 locations, which they then compared by crime rates based on crimes per 100,000 residents.

Each place was then ranked with a score from one to 115 for murders, violent crimes, property crimes, and total crimes, all per 100,000, with one being the safest possible score.
