New Lenox Offers Suicide Prevention Training
Participants learn about the impact of suicide in America, common myths and facts surrounding suicide, risk factors and more.
NEW LENOX, IL — The New Lenox Safe Communities America Coalition, in partnership with Sertoma Centre, Inc., will offer a QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) class Thursday, Oct. 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the New Lenox Village Hall. The class is free and is recommended for anyone high school age or above.
According to a release, QPR stands for Question, Persuade, Refer and is the CPR of mental health. This class increases public awareness of suicide and improves one’s ability to identify and refer those at risk for suicide.
Participants learn about the impact of suicide in America, common myths and facts surrounding suicide, warning signs, risk factors and protective factors. Participants are equipped to intervene early by learning how to question, persuade and refer persons who are at risk for suicide. Participants are identified as Gate Keepers upon completion of the training.
