New Lenox Offers Suicide Prevention Training Class

Participants are identified as Gate Keepers upon completion of the training.

NEW LENOX, IL — The New Lenox Safe Communities America Coalition, in partnership with Sertoma Centre, Inc., will offer a 90-minute suicide prevention training on Tuesday, May 7. The class utilizes QPR, which stands for question, persuade and refer. The class will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at New Lenox village hall. The class is free and is recommended for anyone high school age or above.

According to the village, this class increases public awareness of suicide and improves one’s ability to identify and refer those at risk for suicide. Participants learn about the impact of suicide in America, common myths and facts surrounding suicide, warning signs, risk factors and protective factors.

The village said participants are equipped to intervene early by learning how to question, persuade and refer persons who are at risk for suicide. Participants are identified as Gate Keepers upon completion of the training.
