New Lenox Shares Trick-Or-Treating, Halloween Plans
The village has set trick-or-treating hours for 3 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31.
NEW LENOX, IL — Trick-or-treating will still be taking place in New Lenox this year. The village has set trick-or-treating hours for 3 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31.
"People are on edge, and there was already a great deal of discussion on social media [about Halloween]," Mayor Tim Baldermann said during the Sept. 14 Village Board meeting.
The village will also be hosting a Scarecrow Stroll, so Baldermann said for parents who don't want to take their children trick-or-treating could take their families to see the scarecrows from Oct. 24-Nov. 1.

There will also be a one-stop trick-or-treating in the Commons on Halloween from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The village will put together bags of candy to hand out to children.
For those who are comfortable trick-or-treating around the neighborhood, they can still head out to do so.

Baldermann said the village is asking residents not to leave bowls of candy outside, as multiple hands would go in the bowl to grab candy.
"We would ask trick-or-treaters and homeowners to consider wearing their mask when interacting with each other," Baldermann said, asking that residents be considerate of each other.
Homeowners who do not want to pass out candy to trick-or-treaters have the option of picking up a "Happy Halloween" sign from the village to tape on your front door, to indicate that they do not wish to participate.
"If you see that, just walk on by, and respect the concerns that that particular homeowner may have," Baldermann said.
