New Lenox Township Starts Recycling Program

Residents who can't get the village's curbside recycling service may drop off recycled goods at the township office.

After years of offering an electronic waste disposal, the is expanding its recycling program to include the traditional paper, glass and aluminum.

"There are a lot of residents who come here who don’t want to purchase the recycling or it’s something they can’t afford," Township Supervisor Supervisor Bill McCollum said. "Especially in these day, people want to recycle but don’t always have the resources."

The recycling program began May 7 at the township office, 1100 S. Cedar Road. There's no additional cost, but proof of residency in the township is required to drop off recycled goods. The township collects newspaper, aluminum, plastic, glass, cardboard, tin and magazines from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every business day, as well as the fourth Saturday of every month.

“This program will help keep our roadways and right of ways cleaner and free of items that can be recycled," Trustee Martin Boban said in a newsletter.

McCollum said the township encourages residents to do the curbside pickup, but if they can’t then to drop off at the township.
