Obituary: Evangeline Policandriotes

Dedicated and faithful member of the Philoptochos Society and the Mykonos Society passes away at the age of 90.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Evangeline Policandriotes

Evangeline “Vangie” Policandriotes, age 90, late of Naperville and a lifelong Joliet resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025.

Born September 12, 1934, she was the daughter of Evangelos and Catherine Niaounakis, and was later adopted by Thomas and Petroula (Samios) Doctolis. She graduated from St. Francis Academy in Joliet and married John Policandriotes in 1955.

Evangeline was a dedicated and faithful member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, where she was a member of the Philoptochos Society and the Mykonos Society. In addition to her own family, her Church family was central in her life.

Surviving are her beloved children, Patricia (Michael) Martin of Joliet, Mary (Jim) Schmidt of Naperville, and Anthony (Carla) Policandriotes of Shorewood; ten adoring grandchildren, Angel Dickinson, Heaven Martin, Galaxy (Erin) Martin, Bill (Tanya) Schmidt, Eva Schmidt, Joanie Policandriotes, Maya Policandriotes, Louie (Kasey) Goode, Lauren (Justin) Doty, and Jimmy (Courtney) Goode; nine dear great-grandchildren, two precious great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her Goddaughter in Greece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers and sisters, Helen Stanley, Mary Anagnost, John Eugenides, and Ted Eugenides, and her best friend Sue Gurley.

Visitation for Evangeline Policandriotes will be held Friday, May 9, 2025 from 9:00 a.m., until the time of Funeral Services at 10:00 a.m., at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway Street, Joliet. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
