23 Nevertheless I am continually with you;
you hold my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
and afterwards you will receive me with honor.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire other than you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever. ~ Psalm 73:23-26
Children require constant supervision. They tend to get into things they shouldn't when not being watched. When supervised, they tend to be more aware of what they can and cannot do. It is a learning process that spans many years. Hopefully, by being properly supervised, they will lean more toward what they should do as opposed to what they should not do when they mature into adulthood.
We, as Christians, are still children in God's eyes. He is always there to guide us in His ways. In return, we want to please Him by doing what He calls us to do, although we may occasionally slip and "fall" away from His direction. God is strong enough to help "pick us back up" when we "fall" and put us back on His path. He is our Father and He longs to have us walk into His arms for Him to embrace with His all-encompassing love.
Just as a child longs to be shown love and be protected, so we also long to feel the love of God enfolding us and keeping us from the evil around us in this world. We need to take the time to just sit in quiet meditation with God and allow Him to "hold" us in His love so that we can really "feel" that love strengthening us to carry out His will. Reading His Word is great and wonderful, but we need to allow time for His Word to "sink in" and really speak to us as a loving parent would speak to their child. In this way, we can better learn what it is God desires for us to do so that we can then go and carry out His will to please Him in response to the love we have for Him. By drawing closer to God and giving our lives over to Him, we gain a loving relationship with our Heavenly Father that will last for all eternity.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,Take us by the hand and lead us where You wish us to go to fulfill whatever it is You desire us to do in Your Name. Give us the strength to carry out Your will so that You will be glorified. Thank you for Your love and desire for us to come closer to You. Amen.
