Providence to Expand with New Building

The new building will take up more than 20,000 square feet and be home to the school's cafeteria and student commons area.

NEW LENOX, IL - Providence Catholic High School has plans to construct a new building for its student commons and cafeteria.

The school announced its plans last week to soon embark on the construction of the new 21,800 square-foot space that is a result of what the school says is a record fundraising campaign. The new space will include a spirit wear shop also serve as the athletic competition entry for basketball and volleyball games and will include a concession space, according to a news release from the school.

"The new facility will provide a safe, welcoming central space for all students to gather before, during and after school hours. A larger modern kitchen and food court will allow our staff to provide a greater diversity in offerings. A new entrance will feature a spacious roundabout pick up / drop off area and create an attractive southwest entry for our school building," said Rev. Richard J. McGrath, president of the school. "The increased space will make it possible to consolidate four lunch periods into two lunch periods, thereby freeing up time during which new academic opportunities."

The school's most recent fundraiser campaign, called 'Building Our Legacy Every Student... Every Day' has raised $3.5 million since it began on July 1, 2016. With three months remaining in the campaign, the fundraising total is already a record in the school's 99-year history. The goal of the capital campaign is $6 million.

In addition to the new building, funds from the campaign will also be used to add air conditioning to some original classrooms.
