Robbed: Speedway In New Lenox, 7-Eleven In Joliet

The same armed robbers struck both communities early Sunday morning, police say.

NEW LENOX, IL - Two men entered the Speedway gas station around 4 a.m. Sunday and pointed a gun at the store clerk as they demanded cash from the register, the New Lenox Police Department said. The same two men are believed to have pulled off another armed robbery in Joliet at a 7-Eleven convenience store about 20 minutes earlier, police also said.

The armed robbery in New Lenox occurred at the Speedway in the 800 block of West Lincoln Highway, which is not far from the Interstate 80 exit.

At the Speedway, "the clerk provided the money and the two (people) fled on foot to a car that was waiting nearby. Taken was about $100. The clerk was not injured," New Lenox Police told Patch.

New Lenox Police believe this is a three-man crime crew.

The third person is the getaway driver, who waits nearby as his two accomplices go inside the business to rob the place.

At around 3:40 a.m. Sunday, New Lenox Police said, "the same offenders robbed a 7-11 in Joliet, about 20 minutes prior to robbing the Speedway in New Lenox. The NLPD is investigating all leads in this case, and we continue to contine to investigate the other recent incidents that were similar in nature."
