The driver of a car that flipped over and landed in a ditch around midnight at U.S. 52 and Smith Road remains in critical condition.

MANHATTAN, IL - A 38-year-old woman was critically wounded Thursday night just before midnight in a single-car crash on U.S. Route 52 in Manhattan. Accident reconstruction teams closed the roadway for five hours between Banks Way and Smith Road as an investigation into the serious crash has begun.
Manhattan police responded to U.S. 52 and Smith Road at 11:54 p.m., when they found a car on its roof in a ditch near the Cubby Holes storage facility, Manhattan Police Chief Joseph Wazny said.
The woman, a resident of New Holland, Illinois, was extricated from the car after suffering significant injuries to the head and confusion, Wazny said. The crash pinned her inside the car.
