Special Olympics Illinois Torch Carried Into New Lenox

The torch's destination is Normal, where the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics Summer Games will start on June 7.

NEW LENOX, IL — The community is invited to the New Lenox Village Commons at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4 for a closing ceremony of this leg of the Special Olympics Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run. According to police, New Lenox Police Department officers and staff will carry the Flame of Hope, after receiving it from Joliet Police Department, through New Lenox along Route 30 and into the Commons.

Mayor Tim Baldermann will provide closing statements at the ceremony, the department said. The torch started its 1,500-mile journey on June 2, and is carried by 3,000 officers representing every branch of law enforcement across Illinois.
