Traffic, Building Material Woes Postpone New Lenox Apartment Complex

Trustees decided to hold off on a vote on Lincoln Station Apartments.

Potential traffic problems and building material debate have stalled an apartment complex planned for New Lenox.

Village trustees Monday were scheduled to vote on the plan and special use permit for Lincoln Station Apartments—four apartment buildings (312 units) envisioned for 16 acres at Route 30 and Prairie Street. The board tabled the vote, until questions on traffic and wood used for the floors and walls can be more thoroughly discussed with New Lenox Development Company LLC.

Trustee Annette Bowden praised the plans, but noted something seemed off about the project, which developers said would highlight the village’s vision for a downtown, reports MySuburbanLife.

“I think it’s a great building. I think it’s a great thought process. But for it to do what I thought it was really going to do for the community, I think you’re amiss there,” Bowden said.

Mayor Tim Baldermann encouraged the developers to look into the concerns and come back to the board at a later date.
