Treasure Hunting

2I want their hearts to be encouraged and united in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ himself, 3in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. ~ Colossians 2:2-3

I know I often speak of looking out the window in the morning while getting my coffee before heading to my desk to really "get down to work."  It is so inspiring to see nature in the morning - especially when God's other creatures are doing the inspiring.  Yesterday, I noticed 8 squirrels running around in the snow - two were each chasing another squirrel, and the other four were running short "jaunts" here and there in different directions, pausing to dig for something and quickly rise to eat whatever it is that they had found buried in the snow.  Sometimes, they remind me of a pirate in a movie, following a treasure map and taking exaggerated strides - first one way, then another - to locate the desired treasure at the "X" on the map.

We have just such a map in the form of a book - the Holy Bible - that leads us to the treasure that our souls are all yearning for.  Reading it carefully and following its direction helps lead us to this treasure of life that springs eternal for our souls in heaven.  Earthly treasurers tend to not bring us the satisfaction and fulfillment that we sometimes think they will, but a relationship with God through Christ will fill our souls to overflowing - nourishing us with His love and mercy so that we can become heirs adopted into heaven as God's own children.  There is no greater treasure than this!

Prayer

Heavenly Father,Thank you for your treasure given to us in the form of Your Son, who reconciles us to You so that we can be called Your children.  Help us to make time to seek Your truth through Your Word daily, so that we can continue to grow closer to You.  Amen.
