Let’s hope it was the wind, but a Christmas tree was found pitched on its side in the New Lenox Commons on Christmas Eve.
Winds at speeds of 40 mph were reported at Joliet Airport Wednesday evening, so it’s probable the gusts were to blame, but that doesn’t explain a scribble found on a nearby sign.

A sign depicting who donated the tree—Marty Boban—was defaced by someone who crossed out “Boban” and jotted, “McFly.”
Village staff were enlisted to return the tree to its upright position. It wasn’t the Village’s main tree, Baldermann said.

“We are taking care of the tree,” Baldermann said. “I believe the tree is due to the wind but someone did write on the sign.”
