Village Board to Talk FY13 Budget Tonight

The New Lenox trustees will discuss the budget before voting on it next month.

The New Lenox Village Board will talk about next year's budget tonight during a special meeting. 

The board meets at 6:30 p.m. at . This annual update on the budget is a chance for trustees to discuss where the village's finances stand and what new revenue or expenses might be introduced in the coming fiscal year.

Mayor Tim Baldermann said some topics of discussion would be things such as staffing and equipment. Another budget-related issue that's been discussed in committee is increasing the daily parking fee for the Metra commuter lot.

One change that occurred during this budget year was the approval of a $27 million capital improvements plan that increased the village's sales tax by a 1/2 a cent, bringing the total rate to 8.5 percent, and also increase its utility tax 5 percent on gas and electric. The plan also cut revenue that previously came in through vehicle and pet stickers.

The village's 2011-12 budget was balanced, with $60.4 million in expenditures and $61.9 million in revenue. The budget discussion also includes a look at residential and commercial development in town.
