Walmart Worker Fired, Arrested: Police Blotter

NEW LENOX, IL -Here is a look at criminal activity in the village of New Lenox during the first week of 2019. This information was supplied by the New Lenox Police Department.

Jan. 2

  • An officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a delayed retail theft complaint involving an employee. The officer met with the complainant who advised that an employee, Kevianna Whitmore, 20, of Leach Avenue in Joliet, had switched prices on two cakes she purchased. The result was an approximate $48 loss to the store. Whitmore was subsequently charged with retail theft and terminated from Walmart. Whitmore posted bond and was released

  • The officer was dispatched to Jewel Osco on East Laraway Road in reference to a retail theft. The officer met with the complainant who advised that a subject stole approximately $300 worth of alcohol from the store.
  • The officer met with the complainant who advised that they mistakenly forgot their purse at Portillo’s two days earlier. The complainant learned that their credit cards were later fraudulently used to make purchases at various locations.
  • An officer dispatched to Walmart in reference to a retail theft complaint. The officer met with the complainant who advised that Reginald Smith, 24, of Matteson entered the store, removed a tea pot from a shelf and immediately went to customer service. Smith then attempted to get a refund for the tea pot. The officer learned that Smith had committed the same offense a day earlier only he was successful in obtaining a gift card refund at that time. Smith was transported to the NLPD and charged with two counts of retail theft.

An officer was on patrol and observed a vehicle with an equipment violation at Lincoln Highway and Nelson Road. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and met with the driver, Katlin Kelch, 20, of Bon Terre, in New Lenox. The officer learned that Kelch had a suspended driver’s license. The officer discovered that Kelch was unlawfully in possession of cannabis and a cannabis smoking device .Kelch posted bond and was released.

An officer was dispatched to Murphy USA on Laraway Road in reference to a retail theft. The officer met with the complainant who advised that a person pumped approximately $24 worth of gas into a vehicle and drove off without paying.

Jan. 6

  • An officer was dispatched to Circle K on Nelson Road in reference to a retail theft. The officer met with the complainant who advised that a person entered the gas station and stole approximately $220.00 worth of Red Bull.
  • The officer dispatched to the NLPD in reference to a person wanting to turn themselves in reference an outstanding arrest warrant. The officer met with the complainant, Antal Andrin, 48, of Michigan Road in New Lenox and confirmed that he had a warrant out for his arrest out of DuPage County for failure to appear. Andrin posted bond and was released.

Jan. 7

An officer was dispatched to Contry Creek Drive in reference to burglary. The officer met with the complainant who advised that someone entered their secured/fenced in lot and forced entry into several construction trailers. The only items missing at the time of the report were scrap materials.

Jan. 7

  • An officer dispatched to the NLPD in reference to a person wanting to turn themselves in reference an outstanding arrest warrant. The officer met with the complainant, Jason Cain, 26, of Braidwood, and confirmed that he had a warrant out for his arrest out of Will County for Domestic Battery. Cain posted bond and was released.
  • An officer was on patrol and observed a vehicle speeding on Lincoln Highway and Marley Road. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and met with the driver, Terence O’Neill, 48, of 116th Street in Mokena. The officer learned that O’Neill was driving under the influence of alcohol and had open alcohol inside the vehicle he was driving. O’Neill was transported to the NLPD. O’Neill posted bond and was released.
