Will County Board Votes Down Truck Terminal
As expected, board rejects truck terminal proposed for U.S. 30 and Gougar Road.

After fielding safety concerns from various members of the New Lenox community, the Will County Board Thursday voted down a proposal for a truck terminal at the intersection of Route 30 and Gougar Road.
Board members voted 16-6 against the plan by NR1 Transport, of Joliet, which had sought to move its truck terminal from Joliet to the New Lenox site, former home of TJ Lambrecht Construction.
New Lenox, Providence Catholic HIgh School and Silver Cross Hospital were among those who opposed the terminal at the already busy intersection with a rail crossing nearby, citing safety and accessibility as worries.

Board member Ray Tuminello applauded the board’s decision.
“With a multitude of safety concerns from the residents, the village, the hospital and the high school, coupled with the lack of adequate access, I was proud of the County Board to step up and do the right thing for our Community,” said Will County Board Member Ray Tuminello (District 12).

Some board members wondered if the property’s zoning should be changed to reflect the area’s population boom of the last 15 years.
“The industrial zoning is not appropriate for today,” New Lenox Assistant Village Administrator Robin Ellis said, as reported by Chicago Tribune.
