Woman Left Kids Home Alone and Drove Drunk: Cops

NEW LENOX, IL - A New Lenox woman who left her children home alone crashed her vehicle into another car and a tree while drunk earlier this month, police said. New Lenox police said Sara A. Berry, 38, of the 2100 block of Finborough Circle in New Lenox was charged with aggravated DUI, criminal damage to property, endangering the life of a child, illegal transportation of alcohol, reckless driving, no valid driver's license and leaving the scene of an accident at 2:21 a.m. on April 10.

The driver of another car called police from the 2000 block of Edgeview Drive and told them the woman, later identified as Berry, drove across a lawn and struck their car and a tree.

Police arrived on scene and located Berry, who they said was under the influence of alcohol and did not have a valid driver's license. They also found that her children were unattended at home.

Berry was arrested and taken to the police station. A family member took custody of her children.
