Women Serving God Are a Blessing

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,

but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. ~ Proverbs 31:30

When I was growing up, I always wanted to be just like my mom.  I thought she was not only beautiful of face, but in spirit as well.  She was always up before anyone else, making breakfast to get us all out the door for work or school on time, kept the house clean and had regular meals on the table every evening.  She always showed her love for us in all she did.  On Sundays, she not only taught Sunday school at our small rural church, but picked up the neighborhood kids to take with us, because their parents were not church goers.

To me, my mother was a "saint" that I wanted to emulate later in life.  My fiery temper and quick tongue, however, were not like my mother.  I struggled with that part of my personality that was so in conflict with who I wanted to be as I got older.  To this day, I still struggle with it, though most people who see me outside the home cannot usually picture me with such a problem.  Working in a church office has helped calm that part of me down a bit, but even then, I have my moments, as all humans do.

God knows that we are not perfect, but when we strive to do work to further His kingdom, all those around us see the "beauty" of His grace and love shining into the lives of those we serve.  Like my mother, women that work to help others grow in their faith or serve others on a daily basis out of love through Christ are to be praised for their faithfulness and unselfishness.  They show the love and support for others in all that they do - like a mother cares for her own children.  Mothers Day is a wonderful day set aside to do just that.  Even if a woman is not a mother physically, those she serves and cares for like a mother make her one to be honored among women.  Remember to thank these women in your life as well as your own mother this Sunday.  God has put them in your life to show His love to you through them.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for all of the women You have placed in our lives to show us Your love and care.  Be they our physical mother or someone else that shows us the way that leads to You, please bless them for their faithfulness in serving You.  Amen.
