I grew up in the area, and raised two children within 7 doors of my childhood home. One thing has not changed, there is very little for Pre-teens and youth to do in our area. If you are not good in the few select sports the schools and park district have, and if you are not good academically, you have nothing to do.
Drop In Skate Park is set up to give pre-teens and youth a place to go where they are supervised and are safe. In fact Drop In Skate Park has cameras that any parent can jump on www.dropinskatepark.com and see what is going on and what their child is doing.
When a child or youth is left with nothing of interest they will create something to do. Normally this will lead to things that are not acceptable to families or society. Getting out and supporting organizations that are offering a safe alternative to just walking around the community and hanging out at parks is very important.

Drop In Skate Park also attempts to teach children and youth to give back to their community. Currently they are working with Smart Choice Food to bring restaurant quality food at a very low price for families on a budget.
