50 Pairs Of Underwear Stolen; Employee Disputes: Niles Blotter

NILES, IL — The following information comes from the Niles Police Department as a record of police activity. INCIDENTS
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone punctured the tires of a vehicle parked in the 9000 block of Cumberland during the overnight hours of Jan. 29-30, police were told. There were also long scratches visible on the outside of the vehicle.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 8400 block of North Ottawa Avenue reported that someone had broken into a home between 12:30 and 1 p.m. Police are investigating after a pillowcase and a small safe were reported stolen.
EXPLOSION
Police were called to a vacant property in the 9400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue for a report of an explosion around 9:30 a.m on Jan. 31. It turned out demolition crews were working on cutting into a gas tank venting pipe. Reports indicated the explosion sent debris shooting into the air and onto nearby homes. There were no injuries reported.

STOLEN CAR
A resident in the 8300 block of Monroe Avenue reported that someone stole a 1998 Honda Civic that had been parked in the street sometime between Jan. 20 and Jan. 31.
DOG SCAM
A resident told police that he had been negotiating with a canine distributor online on Jan. 29 and Jan. 30. The resident wired $387.50 to Columbus, Ohio but no dog was ever sent, police were told.
COUNTERFEIT AT TACO BELL
An employee of the Taco Bell in the 7500 block of North Harlem Avenue called police to report that shortly before 8 p.m. on Feb. 2 an unidentified woman had entered the eatery and tried to buy food with an apparent counterfeit $100 bill. The staffer refused to accept it and the woman snatched the note back before fleeing the store.
PUBLIC INDECENCY
An employee of the Walgreens in the 9000 block of North Greenwood Avenue reported at 11:35 a.m. on Feb. 3 that a man had entered the store and asked for assistance about toothpaste. While speaking with the man, the staffer noticed that the man had "exposed himself from his pants." After the indecent exposure was discovered, the man fled the store. Police are investigating.
STOLEN CAR
A 2000 Toyota Sienna was reportedly stolen from the 8000 block of North Merrill Street between 11 a.m. and 12:39 p.m. on Feb. 3. Police were told the vehicle had been left unlocked with a key in its ashtray.
RESIDENTIAL DISTURBANCE
Police were called to White Eagle Banquets in the 6800 block of North Milwaukee Avenue around 10:21 p.m. on Feb. 4 for a report of a disturbance. They found an employee and the manager arguing, and after police arrived the employee "became irate and began yelling expletives." The employee left the scene and no charges were filed.
THEFT
An employee of Arby's in the 7000 block of West Dempster Street reported that the store conducted an audit after firing an employee on Feb. 4. The audit turned up $266.08 missing, and the fired employee is reportedly a prime suspect in the missing money.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Two men damaged two vehicles parked in a lot in the 6100 block of West Howard Street using a spark plg to shatter windows and an unknown object to slash tires. The incident was reported on Feb. 6 and police are investigating.
RETAIL THEFT
An unidentified woman stole 50 pieces of assorted underwear from the Victoria's Secret at the Golf Mill Mall between 7:30 p.m. and 8:27 p.m. on Feb. 5, police were told. The total value was $788.85 and police continue to investigate.
STOLEN CAR FOUND
A car reported stolen from Glenview was found abandoned in Niles in the early morning hours of Feb. 6 after police were dispatched to the parking lot of Here's Cheers in the 8000 block of West Oakton Street.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 20-year-old Arlington Heights man was pulled over for speeding and arrested around 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 30 and charged with driving with a suspended license in the 8400 block of Greenwood Avenue. He was also cited for driving without a front license plate and not notifying state of a change of address.
Anthony M. Nugent, 42, of the 8100 block of North Merrill Street, Niles, was arrested at 9:25 p.m. on Jan. 30 at a Panera Bread in the 0-100 block of S. Northwest Highway in Park Ridge and charged with retail theft and possession of a controlled substance. Police were told he asked to view a pair of diamond earrings worth $480 from the Kohl's in the Golf Mill Mall and then ran out of the store. As police were taking him into custody they found 19 pills that were determined to be meloxicam.
A 45-year-old Buffalo Grove man was charged with disorderly conduct at 9:40 p.m. on Jan. 30 after he entered the Kimchi Cabana in the 9000 block of North Greenwood Avenue, to talk about a bill. While inside, he became upset and smashed a glass against a wall.
A 51-year-old Chicago man was pulled over for having only one working headlight in the 7400 block of West Oakton Street and arrested for driving with a suspended license at 8:12 p.m. on Feb. 1.
A 25-year-old Chicago man was pulled over for an "excessively loud exhaust system" and arrested at 8:20 p.m. on Feb. 1 in the 6700 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, charged with driving without a valid license, but with a small amount of cannabis and a grinder.
A 45-year-old Skokie man was pulled over for using an electronic device while driving and arrested at 8:27 p.m. on Feb. 1 in the 7300 block of West Oakton Street, charged with driving without a valid license.
A 38-year-old Chicago woman was pulled over for speeding and arrested at 11:01 p.m. on Feb. 1, charged with driving on a suspended license.
Yolanda Curtis, 52, of the 4600 block of Maypole Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 4:49 a.m. on Feb. 3 in the 7200 block of North Harlem Avenue and charged with driving under the influence. Police were dispatched the intersection of Touhy and Harlem avenues where a person was reported to be slumped over the wheel. Officers determined Curtis was operating her vehicle while intoxicated.
A 78-year-old Niles man was issued a local ordinance citation at 2:19 p.m. on Feb. 3 after he was reportedly seen shoplifting $15 worth of chicken seasoning from the Shop and Save at Golf Mill Center .
A 60-year-old Chicago man was issued a local ordinance citation at 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 3 at the Walmart in the 5600 block of West Touhy Avenue. He was reportedly seen shoplifting four DVDs worth $15.
Salome Endeladze, 31, of the 4000 block of Triumvera Drive, Glenview, was arrested shortly before 8 p.m. and charged with criminal damage following an investigation. Police got a report that a car was keyed in the Walmart parking lot on Golf Road. Cops reviewed video surveillance and identified a suspect and suspect vehicle, leading to Endeladze's arrest.
A 55-year-old Niles woman was cited for disorderly conduct at 7:37 p.m. on Feb. 4 and a crime free housing contact card was completed in connection with reports that she "constantly causes unrest" in the 701 N. Dee Rd. building by "shouting profanities and obscenities that can be heard throughout the floor."
Kenneth J. Bartlett, 44, of the 8200 block of North Caldwell Avenue, Niles, was arrested shortly before 11 a.m. on Feb. 5 after he turned himself in at the Niles Police Department in connection with report of domestic violence on Feb. 4. Bartlett provided police a voluntary statement and was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery.
Janet Castro-Herrera, 28, of the 1400 block of Wicke Avenue, Des Plaines, was arrested at 11:14 p.m. on Feb. 5 after she was pulled over for improperly stopping in 7500 block of North Caldwell Avenue. Police found she was driving with a suspended license, Xanax and a small amount of cannabis. She was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and issued a local ordinance citation for marijuana possession.
