Niles' Legacy " The Town Where People Count".
When I think of the people who shaped Niles into a successful, desireable town I feel proud and grateful.
Every day I look forward to signing onto facebook and reading the submissions in the " Growing Up In Niles " group. My brother and I were raised in Niles, our parents moved here from Chicaqgo's near west side, i.e., Western & Harrison Avenues, in 1951.
We both attended Niles South Elementary School, later I attended Niles East High School, class of 1960, my brother graduated from Niles West. During those years and up until the present we lived under the leadership of three mayors, Frank Stankowicz, Sr., Nick Blase and Bob Callero. In the recent mayoral election Andy Przybylo took office. In my opinion he is going to be an effective, creative leader. In my early days as a Niles Patrol Officer I would occasionally stop and talk to Mayor Przybylo's dad, Teddy, who would sit outside of his banquit hall on Milwaukee Ave., i.e., The White Eagle, while taking a break. I'm sure he would be very proud of Andrew if he was still alive today.
When I reminisce about some of the people who shaped Niles into a successful, desireable municipality I feel proud and grateful to have known them. I am confident that the Przybylo Administration will continue to build upon the legacy of "The Town Where People Count".
