Glencoe, IL– Glencoe’s Writers' Theatre is currently seeking motivated, passionate high school students for the new Writers’ Theatre Youth Council.  This new program was designed to engage students in the artistic and education programming at the theatre. 

Through the program, Youth Council members will get behind-the-scenes access to Writers' Theatre productions, artists, and programs; participate in play readings and artistic discussion groups; attend monthly after-school meetings; host Youth Nights at the theatre; and represent a valued youth voice in theatre operations.

Over the years Writers’ has had the opportunity to have high school students complete senior projects at the theatre, work as volunteers, and attend performances. With the Youth Council, Writers’ provides an additional chance for students to learn by observing and experiencing the behind-the-scenes operation of a professional theatre.  In order to have cross-school and cross-city artistic conversations, Writers’ would like a variety of area high schools represented.  Applications are welcome from all students. 

To be considered for the Youth Council, students must complete the application form and submit it, along with a resume, to Director of Education Nicole O'Connell via e-mail to noconnell@writerstheatre.org.  Students must also provide two teacher references, and may be asked to interview.

In July, 2011, Writers’ Theatre announced the hiring of the award-winning, internationally renowned Studio Gang Architects, led by principle Jeanne Gang, FAIA to design a new home for the Theatre in downtown Glencoe which will once again allow the Theatre to grow to accommodate its audience, while maintaining its trademark intimacy. The new facility will resonate with and complement the Theatre’s neighboring Glencoe community and will add tremendous value to Chicagoland and the North Shore as a premier cultural destination.
