Caregiver Accused Of Forgery; Sod Thrown By Neighbor: Blotter
Morton Grove Police Blotter: May 19 - June 8

MORTON GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Morton Grove Police Department as a record of police activity. Readers are reminded that an arrest by the police does not constitute a finding of guilt, criminal charges — representing merely accusations by the state — are often dropped or reduced and all persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
CAR/GARAGE BURGLARIES
Two resident in the 9000 block of Meade Avenue reported on May 17 that someone had gotten into unlocked cars. In one case someone stole a debit card and driver's license. In the other case it did not appear anything had been stolen.

Police discovered on May 17 that someone had gone through two garages in the 9000 block of McVicker Avenue and pulled items off the shelf. A prescription bottle was reported stolen from an unlocked car, and a drill that was taken from the garage turned up at the second garage burglary. About $80 was stolen from the second garage. The power tool was left sitting on the ground outside.
DECEPTIVE PRACTICE
A Foster Street resident reported on May 17 that someone had offered a job that involved buying iTunes gift card. The purported employer claimed the resident would be reimbursed for the gift cards and provided two fraudulent checks.

FRAUD
A Madison Street resident reported on May 18 that someone had withdrawn an unspecified amount of money from their account.
IDENTITY THEFT
A Fernald Avenue resident reported on May 18 that someone had used their information to open up a cell phone account.
FRAUD
A Concord Drive resident reported on May 19 that someone had written two unauthorized checks linked to their bank account for a total of nearly $4,000.
STOLEN CAR
A resident in the 8600 block of Ferris Avenue reported on May 19 that they had just received a fraud alert on their debit card account when they checked to see their car had been stolen. The key fob and some belongings had reportedly been left inside.
THEFT
A resident in the 8500 block of Mansfield Avenue reported on May 22 that someone dug up lillies from their yard and tried to uproot their rose.
SCAM
A National Avenue resident reported on May 28 that they had fallen victim to a scam involving a phone call claiming to come from the Internal Revenue Service.
FRAUD
A Main Street resident reported on May 29 that someone had used their StubHub account to make an unauthorized purchase for nearly $686, which was funded by the resident's PayPal account.
HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 9100 block of Harlem Avenue reported discovering on June 1 that the back door window to their home had been broken. It appeared that at least one room of the home had been rummaged through but it was not known at the time of the report what, if anything, was stolen.
THEFT
A patron at an Italian restaurant in the 6400 block of Dempster Street reported that someone had stolen their wallet from inside of a purse that had been placed on the back of a chair during a meal.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Peter R. Mays, 34, of the 7500 block of Elmhurst Road in Des Plaines, was arrested on May 10 by the Arlington Heights Police Department for a warrant for fraud issued by the Morton Grove Police Department.
A 19-year-old Chicago man was pulled over for a traffic violation and arrested for driving without a valid license on May 10 near the intersection of Dempster Street and Central Avenue.
A 51-year-old Niles man was pulled over for a traffic violation in the 8600 block of Waukegan Road and arrested for driving without a valid license on May 15.
A 22-year-old Skokie woman was arrested on May 18 near the intersection of Oakton Street and Menard Avenue and charged with driving with a suspended license.
A 23-year-old Chicago man was arrested on May 19 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Golf Road and Central Avenue.
A 23-year-old Chicago woman was arrested on May 21 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 9300 block of Central Avenue.
Mari Lynn Krause, 52, of the 5600 block of Krebs Drive in Champaign, was arrested on May 22 in the 8600 block of Ferris Avenue and charged with forgery and theft as a caregiver.
A 20-year-old Wheeling man was arrested on May 24 and charged with driving without a valid license after being involved in a traffic crash near the intersection of Dempster Street and Lehigh Avenue.
Bernard M. Stellar, 70, of the 8500 block of Morton Avenue in Morton Grove, was arrested on May 25 at his home and charged with battery after he reportedly threw "sod and a plastic bottle" at his neighbor during a dispute.
A 33-year-old Morton Grove man was arrested on May 25 in the 6800 block of Dempster Street and charged with misdemeanor excessive speeding for driving 65 mph in a 35 mph zone.
A 24-year-old Evanston man was arrested on May 27 near the intersection of Dempster Street and Oketo Avenue and charged with misdemeanor excessive speeding for driving 62 mph in a 35 mph zone.
A 23-year-old Chicago woman was arrested on May 21 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 9300 block of Central Avenue.
Mario F. Oviedo, 38, of the 5400 block of Suffield Street in Skokie, was arrested on May 26 at the police station and charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
On May 30, a 65-year-old Morton Grove man at Windy City Smoke Shop, 9404 Waukegan Road, was issued an ordinance violation for selling tobacco products to a minor.
A 63-year-old Des Plaines man was arrested on May 31 near the intersection of Dempster and Prospect streets and charged with driving while his license was suspended.
A 21-year-old Bolingbrook man was arrested on June 2 near the intersection of Dempster Street and Lincoln Avenue and charged with misdemeanor excessive speeding for driving 75 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Dol Sem Cha, 48, of the 2500 block of West Farragut Avenue in Chicago, was arrested on June 3 in the 9400 block of Waukegan Road and charged with battery after he reportedly punched a person, causing a small cut and swelling.
