District 63's Nelson Students Honored at Glenview Art League Youth Art Fair

Four students at East Maine District 63's Nelson School were among the top winners at the Glenview Art League event on February 20.

Four students at East Maine School District 63’s Nelson Elementary School, all Niles residents, were among the top winners at the Glenview Art League’s annual Youth Art Fair on February 20. Open to all students in the area -- from pre-school through high school -- the Fair showcased more than 300 pieces this year.

Jakub
Winkowski took home 1st prize in the Fifth Grade category for his abstract acrylic painting -- and Nelson swept the Sixth Grade category, with Bernardo Lebron, Pallavi Raju, and Aviva Hurwitz winning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively for their Native American pencil drawings. Lebron also garnered a People's Choice Award for his entry.

“We’re incredibly proud of our four Art Fair winners,” noted Dr. Jean LeBlanc, Nelson Principal. “Nelson is committed to success that goes beyond academics, and this is a great example of student achievement. Bernardo, Jakub, Pallavi, and Aviva exemplify the creativity that always impresses me in our kids – not only in art class, but in a wide range of learning experiences.”
