Morton Grove WW.1 Exhibit Set to Open After Labor Day

An all new exhibit will feature history and artifacts from the era 1917-18 including many from Morton Grove residents.

The Morton Grove Historical Society is working on its new exhibit titled "Illinois & Morton Grove in the Great War - What Happened Before the Doughboy Arrived". The goal is to open the exhibit after Labor Day, then have a big special reception after the Doughboy monument re-dedication on September 24th and run the show until Thanksgiving so the community can experience the exhibit. This will be a once in a century opportunity to commemorate the centennial of the USA's entry into World War One in 1917. Many of the items are on loan from private collections and family members.

The Society is the steward of the Doughboy monument and has undertaken a much needed restoration after the statue's surviving almost a century outdoors. They have registered the statue on several sites including the official United States World War One Centennial Commission (www.world war1centennial.org).

To help make this exhibit more accessible to the public, the Morton Grove Historical Society is looking to hire two Museum Attendants to help docent the exhibit and provide tours. These positions will continue after the exhibit closes. For more information about the exhibit, the Doughboy or Museum Attendant positions, contact the Society at MGHistoryOffice@gmail.com and visit www.mortongrovehistory.weebly....
