Mosquito Spraying Planned For Morton Grove, Niles Northbrook And Skokie
The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District will conduct mosquito control operations Monday night.

NORTHFIELD, IL — The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District announced it will conduct targeted adult mosquito control operations in parts of Morton Grove, Niles, Northbrook and Skokie Monday night. The operations will take place between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., weather permitting. The district's mosquito control operations include truck mounted insecticide spraying and applying insecticide to vegetation in high-traffic areas for temporary protection.
So far 10 out of the 12 municipalities within the district have had samples of mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus. This month, state public health officials announced Illinois' first human case of West Nile virus was detected in Will County. A 67-year-old Crete resident was diagnosed with the virus in June, which can lead to encephalitis or meningitis and sometimes death.

According to the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District, with the amount of rain Northern Illinois has received during the month of July, many areas of the North Shore are experiencing increased adult mosquito activity. Locations closer to Forest Preserve property and other flooded woodland areas are the most affected.
The district said it is expanding our larval control operations to prevent further emergences and helping to reduce the number of adult mosquitoes.
The district said its primary concern remains the increase in West Nile activity in and it will continue to focus its adult mosquito control operations on these locations. However, the district is including areas that have been experiencing increased nuisance mosquito activity as part of ongoing adult mosquito control operations as it is able.
