Niles Board Will Consider Flooding Prevention, Removing Blase Sign

A pre-meeting starts at 6 p.m. and the regular meeting starts at 8 p.m.

The Niles Village Board will get an early start to its monthly meeting today with a pre-meeting at 6 p.m. A consulting firm, Hey and Associates, which the village has hired to create a flooding prevention plan, will make a presentation on the progress it has made over made months of studying the issue.

After the regular meeting starts at 8 p.m., some observers will likely be interested in a discussion of whether the sign which designates the area outside village hall as Nicholas Blase Plaza will be removed. Blase, a former mayor who served 47 years in office starting in 1961, was convicted of fraud and income tax evasion and spent about 10 months in federal prison. He was released in March.

The board will also discuss a change in the liquor license structure a change in building the foundation for the fountain plaza and hear some requests to open new businesses.
