Niles Car Owners Beware: No Sticker Could Add Up
Village starts ticketing autos registered in town that are sticker-less.
Niles car owners beware – your 90-day grace period is up.
Meaning if you haven’t slapped a Niles vehicle sticker inside your car, you’ll get slapped with a ticket.
Police this month have started handing out citations at $50 a pop for any car registered in the village that doesn’t display a valid sticker, Chief Dean Strzelecki said.

A sticker-less car registered in town can be cited anywhere: in connection with a traffic stop, in open view such as a parking lot or a driveway, Strzelecki said.
And those unpaid citations will add up. An unpaid fine will double from $50 to $100 after one month; unpaid after two months and it will go to collections. Cars with six unpaid tickets – be they for traffic violations, parking and vehicle sticker infractions – will be towed or booted.

Earlier this year 350 tickets were issued during a selective enforcement period of the law, “a pretty good amount, for one law that was broken,” Strzelecki said.
The deadline for buying and affixing stickers to the inside lower right hand corner of a windshield was June 30. All vehicles principally garaged or parked within the village must have them.
Tags are $40 for each car. Seniors get a sticker for $10, but there is only one discounted sticker per household.
The village gave a 90-day grace period to be fair about this, Strzelecki said.
Vehicle stickers can still be purchased at Village Hall, 1000 Civic Center Dr. For more information, call village hall at 847-588-8000.
