MORTON GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Morton Grove Police Department as a record of police activity. Readers are reminded that an arrest by the police does not constitute a finding of guilt, criminal charges — representing merely accusations by the state — are often dropped or reduced and all persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

CAR BURGLARY
On April 14, someone stole a license and credit card from a car parked in the Prairie View Plaza parking lot in the 6800 block of Dempster Street.

THEFT
A Carol Avenue resident reported on April 16 that they had been contacted by their bank and informed $17,000 had been withdrawn from checking and savings accounts after they were breached online.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
On April 18, someone reportedly slash a back tire and smashed a taillight of a car parked at the Metra station in the 8500 block of Lehigh Avenue.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident of the 9500 block of Shermer Road reported on April 18 that someone had broken open a side door and ransacked the bedrooms of their home. A purse containing credit cards and $200 in cash was reported missing.

CAR BURGLARY
A patron of a gas station in the 9500 block of Waukegan Road reported that someone stole a purse out of the glove compartment of their vehicle while they were inside the store.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Marmora Avenue resident reported on April 24 that someone had opened up a Verizon account using their name.

FORGERY
An employee at a store in the 7200 block of Dempster Street reported on April 24 that two men had come into the store and used a counterfeit $50 bill to purchase a backpack.

DATING SCAM
A Foster Street resident reported on April 24 that someone she met on an online dating side had told her he was in Egypt for business and his credit card had been declined. She agreed to loan him $1,000 via wire transfer but the man never repaid the money.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Mansfield Avenue resident reported on April 25 that a company claiming to be helping their insurance company had called and gotten them to provide personal medical information. The resident's insurance company later said they had not called.

'GRANDSON' SCAM
A Mason Avenue resident reported on April 25 that someone had called them claiming to be their grandson and asked for bond money. The resident bought two $1,000 gift cards and provide the gift cards to the filial impostor.

IRS SCAM
A Washington Street resident reported on April 27 that someone had called claiming to be from the IRS and claimed the police were going to arrest them unless money was paid. The resident told police that at least $600 worth of gift cards were turned over to the sham taxman.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 70-year-old Des Plaines man was issued a local ordinance citation on April 16 after he reportedly touched another man inappropriately in the locker room of a gym in the 6800 block of Dempster Street.

Janet Rodriguez, 35, of the 8500 block of Mango Avenue in Morton Grove, was arrested on April 25 on a DuPage County warrant connected to unpaid fees from a 2012 DUI arrest after police were called to the intersection of Austin and Lincoln avenues for a report of a suspicious person.

John Dekorsi, 51, of the 2400 block of Glenview Road in Glenview, was arrested on April 25 near the intersection of Central and Golf roads and charged with theft after he reportedly failed to return a rented U-Haul truck.

Sergio Sandoval, 35, of the 3500 block of Osceola Avenue in Chicago, was arrested on April 29 in the 8600 block of Waukegan Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he was pulled over for traffic violations, failed field sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample.
