Pedestrian, 84, Killed After Being Struck By Vehicle In Niles: Police

A portion of Touhy Avenue was closed Tuesday morning as police conducted an investigation into the crash.

NILES, IL — An 84-year-old Lincolnwood man was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Touhy Avenue. According to the Niles Police Department, an investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Major Crash Assistance Team.

The deceased has been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Kim Chang.

Police said at around 6:08 a.m., Chang was crossing the 5600 block of Touhy Avenue from north to south, outside a marked crosswalk, when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound.

Chang was taken to Lutheran General Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead there.

Police were asking residents to find alternate routes as all eastbound and westbound lanes of Touhy Avenue were closed for a period.
