Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Car In Niles
The 63-year-old Lincolnwood woman was hit while crossing Touhy Friday morning.

NILES, IL — A Lincolnwood woman was fatally struck by a car as she crossed the street Friday morning in Niles. Police were called to the intersection of Touhy and Central avenues around 5:48 a.m. for a report of an accident involving a pedestrian, police said.
Patricia M. Dahnke, 63, of Lincolnwood, was crossing the street against the light in the crosswalk while a semi-tractor trailor was turning left. A 2010 Chevrolet Malibu was heading west on Touhy, and as it crossed Central, the passenger in the car alerted the driver of the woman in the street. The driver tried to avoid Dahnke but lost control of the Chevy and hit the pedestrian.
Dahnke was taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver, a 60-year-old Chicago man, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, police said.
