Incidents and arrests from the Morton Grove Police Department blotter from Aug. 24 - Sept. 7

MORTON GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Morton Grove Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

CAR BURGLARIES

- Someone in a black Honda Odyssey on Aug. 22 reportedly burglarized a truck at the Menards parking lot, 6301 Oakton St.
- Someone rummaged through a car parked in the 6600 block of Church Street on Aug. 24 and stole a driver's license and a debit card.
- Someone rummaged through unlocked cars in the 8900 block of Marmora Avenue on Aug. 24, stealing loose change.
- Someone rummaged through unlocked cars in the 9100 block of Mason Avenue and stole loose change on Aug. 24. Footage from a neighbor’s surveillance camera showed an unidentified man trying door handle. He was appeared to be in his 20s with facial hair and medium skin tone.
- Someone rummaged through an unlocked car in the 9100 block of Cherry Avenue on Aug. 24 and stole a driver's license and two credit cards.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Linder Avenue resident reported on Aug. 23 that someone had tried to open up a Victoria's Secret credit card account using her personal information.
- A resident came to the Morton Grove Police Department on Aug. 23 to report someone had tried to open up a bank account at One Main Financial using his personal information.
LICENCE PLATE/IDENTITY THEFT
A resident came to the station on Aug. 24 to report that someone had stolen his front license plate in Northbrook and later used it during an identity theft in Riverwoods.

SHOPLIFTING
An employee at the Dollar Tree, 6929 Dempster St., reported on Aug. 24 that two men entered the store with three children before the two men stole candy.
PACKAGE THEFTS
- A resident in the 8800 block of Luna Avenue returned home on Aug. 25 to find about 10 packages on his front stoop. After entering his house, he returned to find five to seven of the packages had been stolen. His wife noticed a man described as 5 foot, 8 inches, in his early 20s, black and with a thin build take off running moments when he saw here before they walked into the home.
- A resident of the 9000 block of Central Avenue reported on Aug. 25 that someone had stolen a package from his front stoop. A neighbor saw a person matching the description provided in the above theft.
- A resident of the 8300 block of Callie Avenue reported on Aug. 31 that someone had stolen an Amazon package that he had been waiting for.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE
A resident in the 6500 block of Albert Road reported on Aug. 29 that she had returned from a business trip in the first week of August to discover that all four tires of her car were flat. Close inspection revealed small puncture marks on each of the tires.
FORGERY
A resident in the 8700 block of Ferris Avenue reported on Aug. 30 that someone had been trying to deposit or cash checks from her business using a fake check with a forged signature.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Steven R. Schmidt, 44, of the 7700 block of Palma Lane in Morton Grove, was arrested on Aug. 25 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the area of Dempster Street and Shermer Road.
Stephanie A. Hadary, 53, of Clarenbrook Court in Willowbrook, was arrested on Aug. 21 at the Menards, 6301 Oakton St., and charged with retail theft after she and an accomplice reportedly switched tags on items and tried to purchase them at lower prices with a difference of $687.02.
A 32-year-old Niles man was arrested Aug. 22 in the 7800 block of Lehigh Avenue and charged with assault over his involvement in an argument with an employee who was quitting. The boss reportedly at the employee in an aggressive manner and appeared to be trying to provoke a physical encounter and cause a battery. Circuit Judge James Allegretti found the man to be not guilty in September 2019.
Ljuban Juric, 69, of the 9300 block of Normandy Avenue in Morton Grove, was arrested on Aug. 23 near the intersection of Davis Street and Lehigh Avenue on an active arrest warrant.
A 36-year-old McHenry man was arrested on Aug. 29 and charged with driving with a suspended license after he was involved in a traffic crash near the intersection of Mango Avenue and Frontage Road.
Syed Sulayman, 19, of the 5600 block of Theobald Road in Morton Grove, was arrested on Aug. 29 and accused of shoplifting from Zee Vapor and Tobacco, 6325 Dempster St. Due to the staff not wishing to sign a complaint, officers issued Sulayman a disorderly conduct citation and informed him he was banned from the business.
Angelica Geletka, 18, of the 7000 block of West Touhy Avenue in Niles, was arrested on Sept. 2 and charged with zero tolerance after she was pulled over for a traffic violation near the intersection of Dempster and Ozark streets.
A 25-year-old Libertyville man was arrested on Sept. 4 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Gross Point Road and Lincoln Avenue.
