Morton Grove Police Department incidents and arrest blotter for Aug. 1 - Aug. 23

MORTON GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Morton Grove Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

SUSPICIOUS PERSON
A resident of the 7900 block of Linder Avenue reported on Aug. 2 that a family member had seen a large, hooded figure standing on the back deck looking into the window of the sliding door.

SEALANT SCAMMERS
A resident in the 9500 block of Shermer Road reported on Aug. 3 that two men had showed up and claimed to be "home repair professionals" who had worked on the home the prior year. One man claimed they had arrived to seal the house's foundation. One man sprayed a black, tar-like substance around some of the property and asked for $8,000 as payment. When the resident refused, saying the price was unaffordable, the purported repairman offered a "senior discount" for $3,500. The resident tried to offer a check, and the man said he preferred cash. Per his request, the resident withdrew $3,000 in cash from the bank. The man claimed he would return in a few days with a receipt when the resident requested one.

PARKING PEEVE?
Someone keeps "pouring Slurpees" on cars parked in specific places in the 9300 block of Ozark Street, a resident reported on Aug. 5.

TREE THEFT
A resident of the 7000 block of Dempster Street reported on Aug. 5 that someone had stolen two potted trees out of their backyard.

TOOL BURGLARY
Someone stole tools from multiple people doing work at Edison School, 8200 Gross Point Road, prior to Aug. 6.

WHEEL THEFT
A resident in the 8200 block of Central Avenue reported at Aug. 6 that someone stole all four wheels from their Honda.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in 5400 block of Monroe Street reported on Aug. 7 that someone had broken the rear window of their home and rummaged through their dresser drawers.

THEFT FROM TOWED VEHICLE
A resident in the 5500 block of Lincoln Avenue reported on Aug. 9 that items were missing from a vehicle that had been towed from the parking lot of a condominium.

PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 5800 block of Lincoln Avenue reported on Aug. 10 that someone had stolen a pair of UPS packages.

BURGLARY
A resident of the 5800 block of Lincoln Avenue reported on Aug. 10 that someone had ransacked the house after breaking in through the back door.

PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 5800 block of Lincoln Avenue reported on Aug. 11 that someone had stolen an Amazon package from in front of their house.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a car from the 9000 block of Menard Avenue and fled from Lincolnwood police, who attempted to pull them over, police learned on Aug. 12.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Prairie Court resident reported on Aug. 12 that someone had used their credit card number to may three unauthorized charges.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • A resident in the 8400 block of Austin Avenue reported on Aug. 11 that someone had gotten into their car after it had been left unlocked with the windows down during the overnight hours, stealing a wallet, phone charger and medication.
  • An officer discovered an unlocked car that had been ransacked on Aug. 12 in the 9000 block of Menard Avenue while while assisting at the scene of a stolen vehicle report.
  • Someone got into an unlocked car parked in the 9300 block of Menard Avenue and rummaged through it on or before Aug. 12.
  • Someone got into an unlocked car parked in the 9300 block of Marmora Avenue and stole a phone charger and some charge on or before Aug. 12
  • Someone rummaged through a parked car in the 5800 block of Washington Street, taking a set of keys and some loose change on or before Aug. 13.
  • Someone got into into a possibly unlocked car parked in the 5800 block of Washington Street sometime on or before Aug. 13, stealing headphones, phone charger and a Bluetooth device.
  • On Aug. 14, police were told a driver discovered a man in their parked car in a lot in the 8600 block of Waukegan Road. It appeared the man had punched out locks on the car's doors. The owner of the car confronted the burglar, banging on the window. The man ran away in an unknown direction, and nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.
  • A resident of the 5600 block of Lyons Street reported on Aug. 19 that someone had broken the back doors of a work truck and left them open. The burglars were unable to get into the back of the van, and nothing was reported missing at the time of the report.

EGGING
A resident of the 7600 block of Maple Street reported on Aug. 20 that they went outside after hearing a noise in front of their house. The resident discovered a garage door and rear windshield of a car had been egged. A similar incident happened the day before, the resident told police, but it was not reported.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Jaquan T. Malone, 27, of the 800 block of Lenox Avenue in Waukegan, was arrested on Aug. 2 in the area of South Park and Austin avenues on a warrant issued by the Lake County Sheriff's Office (which listed him as an Evanston resident.) He was ordered held without bond at Lake County Jail ahead of a Sept. 18 court date on a single felony count of burglary without causing damage and two counts of resisting police, according to the sheriff's office.

Roisin E. Mulkerrins, 19, of the 6800 block West Ardmore Avenue in Chicago, was arrested on Aug. 2 and charged with misdemeanor theft after he reportedly stole a wallet that had been left behind at a register at the Menards at 6301 Oakton St.

Joseph A. Saunders, 33, 2200 block of West Fairview Avenue in Johnsburg, was arrested on Aug. 14 in the area of Ozark and Arcadia street after reportedly crashing into a parked car around 6:15 a.m. He had two different sets of shoes on, slurred his speech and admitted drinking "a beer or two." Saunders reportedly refused to take part in field sobriety tests but provided a breath sample indicating his blood alcohol concentration was 0.151, nearly twice the legal limit. He was also charged over two vaporizers in his pocked that contained suspected cannabis oil. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a BAC of 0.08 or greater. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, possession of cannabis paraphernalia and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

Montez D. Cannida, 49, of the 4200 block of Oakton Street in Skokie, was arrested on Aug. 15 and charged with retail theft from the CVS at 5945 Dempster St. after he reportedly hid merchandise in his backpack and walked out of the store.

Veronica Cavallari, 23, of the 6200 block of Claremont Avenue in Chicago, was arrested on Aug. 14 at the Skokie Courthouse on a warrant issued by Morton Grove police for a burglary that occurred in February.
