Power Line Topples Car On Oakton Street

Niles police say they don't know why a ComEd power line fell on top of a vehicle on Oakton Street overnight.

NILES, IL - An overnight mystery has caused a power outage for about a dozen Niles residents Wednesday morning. Niles police in a Facebook post confirmed that a ComEd power line fell on top of a car as it was driving westbound on Oakton Street near Harlem Avenue at 3:42 a.m.

What police don't know, as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, is why this happened. There was no storm and no high wind in the weather forecast, albeit bitterly cold outside.

An initial inspection did not indicate any damage to the pole, nor signs that it had been struck by a vehicle.

The power line that fell became entangled in the vehicle, which caused the line to be pulled from the car. Damage to a nearby transformer resulted, according to police.

ComEd began working on repairing the line immediately, and was expected to have done so before noon on Wednesday.
