St. John Brebeuf Launches New Concert Series with Christopher Reames Performance
To kick-off an outstanding musical series, SJB featured Tenor Christopher Reames and Soprano Maureen Smith with Musica Lumina.
SJB Kicks Off Another Outstanding Season for The Musica Lumina Performances
The Musica Lumina 2015-16 concert series opened Sunday, Sept. 27, at St. John Brebeuf (SJB) in Niles with a rousing performance of “Perspectives on Love and War” featuring tenor Christopher Reames, right, and soprano Maureen Smith, center. The performances included music by Benjamin Britten, Gerald Finzi, Olivier Messiaen, and Vaughan Williams. The series is put together by SJB Music Director Marek Rachelski, shown here on the left. Rachelski conducts and also performs.
Sponsored by Relevant Radio and the Bugle Newspapers, the nine concert 2015-16 series will include three commemorative concerts given in honor of the legacy of the Rev. Stanley Rudki, the former chair of the Niles College Department of Fine Arts, who founded the Niles Concert Choir and Niles Symphony Orchestra in the 1960s. They are Magnificats on Sunday, October 25, at 3 p.m., a Do-it-Yourself Messiah on Tuesday, December 1, at 7 p.m., and Mozart: Mass in C Minor, K. 427, on Sunday, March 20, at 3 p.m.
Five additional concerts will feature New Traditions Barbership Chorus with the Purdue University Varsity Men’s Glee Club on October 10 at 8 p.m. (with admission charge for this concert only), Quintet Attacca on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m., Avanti Guitar Trio on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m., Kantorei: The Singing Boys of Rockford on Sunday, April 24 at 3 p.m. and Musica Lumina: Music from the Slavic World on Sunday, May 15, at 3 p.m.
